Methi na Gota (fenugreek leaves fritters)

Methi na gota (fenugreek leaves fritters) is popular gujarati snack specially for winter time when you get lots of Methi… you can also freeze methi and make them all around the year…

Ingredients: (This recipe is for 1 cup besan)
1 cup besan (chickpea flour)
2 tbsp sooji (semolina)
1/4 tsp hing (asafoetida)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp ground coriander powder (you can add crushed coriander seeds if you want)
1 tsp red chili powder ( add more if you want more spicy)
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
1/2 cup water (if you are using frozen methi, 1/2 cup will be enough as it will leave some water but if you are using fresh methi then add 1-2 tbsp more to it)
2/3 cup finely chopped fresh / frozen methi leaves (fenugreek leaves)
Crushed green chilies as per your spicy level
1 tsp eno
oil to fry

Method:

  1. Combine all the ingredients except methi, green chilies, & Eno. Then, make smooth batter. ( Note: you will notice the batter is too thick at this point, but if you are using frozen methi, it will leave some water so it should be ok. But, if you are using fresh methi leaves you may require to add 1-2 tbsp of water, This batter will be little thicker than normal bhajiya batter).
  2. Now add Methi leaves & crushed green chilies. Mix everything. Batter is ready.
  3. Just before frying, add eno to the batter, mix thoroughly.
  4. Heat the oil on medium flame. Now add a spoonful of batter in hot oil with spoon or hand. Make sure to keep flipping in between & fry till they become golden brown and crispy.

Enjoy these fluffy from inside, & crispy from outside Methi na gota with tea /coffee / green chutney / ketchup / tamarind chutney/ fried green chilies etc..
