These protein packed Dhokla is perfect as whole meal.
Serving: 4 People
Ingredients:
1/2 cup rice
1/4 cup chana daal
1/4 cup udad daa
1/4 cup red masoor daal
1/4 cup yellow mung daal
1/4 cup green split mung daal
1/4 cup tuvar daal
Seasoning for batter:
salt to taste
1 tsp hing (asafoetida)
2 tbsp oil
little water
1 tsp of eno
chopped green chilies, cilantro, methi leaves (optional)
Garnishing:
red chili power or sesame seeds (optional)
Method:
1. Mix rice & lentils, wash 4-5 times to clean it properly & then soak with warm water for 6-7 hours.
2. Take out the extra water, coarsely grind the daal & rice mixture. keep it closed in warm place for 6-7 hours for fermentation.
3. After 6-7 hours, it will rise quite a bit. mix the batter. Add little water to make it like idly batter consistency.
4. Put a greased tray in a steamer on medium heat.(I used 9 inch round tray)
4. Now add things listed in seasoning for batter. (green chillies, cilantro & methi gives very good flavor to this dhokla). mix everything.
5. Add Eno to the batter and pour the batter in greased tray according to the thickness you want. Sprinkle red chili powder / sesame seeds (optional)
6. Steam it for 15-20 min on medium to high heat.
7. Dhokla is ready.
8. Will make 3 plates of dhokla (9 inch plate) from this much batter.
It can be served just as it is with oil, ketchup, green chutney, tea/coffee or you can do some tempering with oil, hing, cumin seeds, curry leaves.
